  • Phil Blauer

    News Anchor & Communications Expert

    Phil has been a broadcaster and communications specialist for more than 4 decades. He has a passion for helping aspiring journalists, executives, law enforcement officials, and all types of professionals fine tune their public speaking. Phil has reported on many natural disasters , including the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the 1995 La Conchita landslide, as well as the devastating wildfires that have plagued the southern California region. He has won several Emmy Awards, the Edward R. Murrow Award for investigate reporting, and Press Club Honors in San Diego and Palm Springs. Phil has appeared on national news programs including CNN, Court TV, Investigation Discovery, 48 hours, and Crime Watch Daily.

  • Maria Arcega-Dunn

    News Anchor & Communications Expert

    A highly accomplished Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist with an impressive career spanning over 26 years in local, national and international TV news. Maria has reported for Global Canada, CNN, ABC, FOX News and even the ABS-CBN Network. Throughout her illustrious career, she has had the opportunity to interview several high-profile personalities, including US presidents, world leaders, athletes, award-winning recording artists, and more. Maria has been on the frontlines of history, covering major world events like the turnover of Hong Kong and the civil war in East Timor, in addition to natural disasters including the earthquake in Haiti and the wildfires in Southern California. Maria has also served as the spokesperson for the City of National City in Southern California as the Director of News Media Relations & Communications for which she won the 2006 California State Public Information Award.

Meet the Executive Team

  • Jerry McCormick

    Jerry McCormick is a journalist with 30-plus years of experience in print, broadcasting, public relations and education.

    McCormick is an Emmy-winning producer, an award-winning professor and journalist who likes working with young and first-career journalists.

    He is the founder of the San Diego Association of Black Journalists and a long-time National Association of Black Journalists member. McCormick works with students on honing their resumes, tightening their copy and reels, and general work ethic. He also is an expert at script writing and, on the print side Associated Press Style.

    He is an adjunct professor at San Diego State University and Palomar College in San Marcos.

  • Victoria Johnson

    Combining media and public relations, marketing, and broadcast news experiences into one role, Victoria is the manager of media relations at The Salk Institute.

    She began her career as a broadcast journalist in 2006 and is one of the weekend weather anchors at FOX 5 San Diego. Before landing at FOX, she worked for KSBY News as a weekend anchor, forecaster and multimedia journalist. Victoria also flew for nearly seven years in "Chopper 8" for KFMB-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Diego, delivering breaking news and traffic reports. Outside of both of her busy careers she is also a realtor.
